Gettysburg Coll. 1869–80, 1883–96; also taught at Howard U. 1883 and Gettysburg Sem. 1869–73, 1883; dir. Gettysburg Sem. 1889–99; pres. 1895 to 1896; pres. Gen. Syn. of the Ev. Luth. Ch. in the USA 1895–97; wrote commentary on Luke.
