Where We're Going

For The Sake of the Church: Where We're Going?

For the Sake of the Church is a 12-year endeavor that will double the number of LCMS students on our Concordia campuses and develop $400 million in endowment to support their education.

MISSION STATEMENT - The mission of For the Sake of the Church is to double, by 2010, the number of Lutheran leaders produced by the Concordia University System. This service to the Church will double the number of LCMS graduates at the colleges and universities through the increased benefit and support of these students. For the Sake of the Church is a national program to support this effort with an estimated endowment goal of more than $400 million.

ENROLLMENT GOALS - Together, our Concordia colleges and universities have set enrollment goals that will double the number of LCMS students, from 4,307 (1998-99 school year) to 8,614 (2010-11 school year).

ENDOWMENT GOALS - When this program began, the total endowment of our Concordias was $62.5 million. The goal is to raise $400 million in endowment funds to benefit LCMS students. Each institution has defined an endowment goal that will support the new LCMS students recruited and enrolled through this endeavor.

BENEFITS - Students, families, congregations and our Concordias will receive a variety of benefits as this endeavor succeeds. For the Sake of the Church will help:

  • Provide expanded scholarship and career opportunities
  • Allow our institutions to provide Christian education that is affordable and of high quality
  • Produce more church workers and lay leaders
  • Revitalize our congregations with an infusion of qualified, prepared Christian leaders
  • Increase financial viability of our institutions
  • Improve general awareness of our Concordias as an available, affordable and desirable educational environment.
