Praesidium
The Praesidium of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod is comprised of the president and the five vice presidents of the Synod. The responsibilities of the vice presidents of the Synod are detailed in the Bylaws of the Synod as follows:
- The vice presidents shall be elected advisers of the President and, upon the President's request or as provided by the Synod, shall assist him in discharging his responsibilities or represent him.
- The vice presidents shall, in the order in which they have been ranked, assume the presidency if the office is vacated or perform the duties of the President if he becomes incapacitated.
- The First Vice President shall be a full-time executive and a non-voting member of the Board of Directors. He shall be responsible to the President at all times for the performance of this duties.
- Four additional vice presidents shall be ranked from two to five and are to be selected in the manner prescribed in [the Bylaws of the Synod]. They shall serve the Synod in a part-time capactiy and shall be responsible to the President for the performance of their duties.
