ORGANIZATION PROFILE

The department administers the various benefit programs, and the trusts by which these programs are funded, for the full-time workers of the Synod, its controlled organizations, member congregations, and affiliated agencies.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Direct Report to Manager - Enrollment Eligibility

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Responsible for determining eligibility and processing of the enrollment of new and re-enrolled members; transfers of members to and from eligible employer; changes to member status, and termination of member participation, all within the parameters of plan provisions, HIPAA guidelines, and federal or state laws.  Handles the "specialized" processing of unique types of enrollment situations such as delayed or late member enrollments and/or status change; group-term life issues; billing invoice problem resolution; annual compensation reports; annual open enrollments; Seminary student health insurance; health benefit extensions of coverage; and dependent student eligibility.  Communicates via fax, email, telephone, or letter with members and employers using both standard form letters and self-composed information.  Adopts and follows personal performance factors (CREDIT).  Maintain and utilize procedural manual for job responsibilities.  Participates in special projects as defined by senior management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

College background or high school diploma, desirable; with equivalent work experience in varied employee-benefits related field, required. Previous experience in Concordia Plan Services, a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Understands benefit plans and functions within operations and key interactions among departments/disciplines and business systems used by CPS operations.  Demonstrates initiative to identify, evaluate and correct deficiencies.  Ability to effectively use and maintain a working command of various processing systems, including work flow technology, access databases, email, and telephone systems.  Demonstrated Word processing and, data entry skills are required.  Competencies: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, self-starter, strong proficiency of the various systems used in processing workflow within KnowledgeLake/Pinncacle, Lawson, and Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word and Outlook.  Ability to exercise discretion and judgment regarding confidential matters and to take initiative to resolve problems when discussing outstanding issues with employers/employees.
