Position Title: Manager,Post-Seminary Applied Learning and Support (PALS) Initiative

Classification: Full-Time (32 hours per week), Exempt

Location: International Center, St. Louis, Missouri

Organization Profile:

The Commission on Ministerial Growth and Support (CMGS) exists to provide opportunity for the continuing education and vocational growth of the Church's workers; to advocate and facilitate care and counsel for the Church's workers to support them in the performance of their official duties; and to advocate and facilitate support for the personal well being of the Church's workers and their families.

Purpose Statement:  The CMGS helps the Church's workers learn and grow, serve well and be healthy; and advocates for the workers and their families.

Reporting Relationships

The PALS Manager is accountable to the Executive Director.

Essential Job Functions:

  • To provide assistance to the Executive Director of the CMGS through management of the Post-Seminary Applied Learning and Support (PALS) Initiative.
  • To identify and effectively provide for the development and delivery of appropriate PALS educational and growth material.
  • To regularly provide information to The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, especially to LCMS ordained ministers and district presidents regarding PALS.
  • To initiate and maintain regular communication with PALS facilitators, providing encouragement, support, growth and stimulation for their duties as facilitators.
  • To manage and appropriately facilitate contracts, stipends and expense reimbursements for PALS facilitators.
  • To plan and facilitate the participation in PALS Facilitator Training Events.
  • To correspond with PALS participants as necessitated by normal and special circumstances.
  • To prepare and submit in a timely manner, reports, publicity and news releases in various formats (oral, written, electronic, etc.).
  • To manage budget, billing and record keeping of fiscal activities related to the Initiative.
  • To participate, with the Executive Director, in appropriate activities of planning and vision for PALS.
  • To provide leadership to the PALS Action Team, formed by volunteer members.
  • To peform travel as it may be required.
  • To perform other duties as required.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in a field related to education or ministry.
Parish experience as a rostered minister of the LCMS.
Experience and skill in the development and promotion of healthy relationships among ministers.
Member in good standing of a congregation of the LCMS.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to build and maintain supportive partnerships with ordained ministers of the LCMS.
  • Proven ability to work independently and plan daily work.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in confidential matters.
  • Ability to blend creativity and improvisational thinking with sensitivity to tradition and history.
  • Demonstrated responsibility and skills in coordination of work, prioritization and organization of multiple projects, and communication.
  • Interest in, concern and support for professional Church workers of the LCMS.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Excellent command of the English language and correct grammatical use.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated skill with the computer, the World Wide Web, and Microsoft Suite Applications.

None.
