  • To provide support and encouragement for a holistic approach to youth ministry
  • To provide the opportunity for teens to express their dreams, visions and concerns to the church
  • To empower teens to define their mission in the church
  • To enable teens to discover their leadership gifts and to use those gifts in service to God and His people.

  • HOW IS LYF ORGANIZED?

The youth ministry programs of all LCMS congregations are considered to be a part of Lutheran Youth Fellowship. There is no registration or fee expectation. All congregations are provided information about LYF program and resources.

Each LCMS district selects its representatives to attend an annual leadership training conference. At this event, the official business of the organization is transacted and leadership training is provided for the "Council of LYF Representatives" (CLYFR) membership. The council business is conducted by an executive board.

Each March, the 35 districts of the LCMS have the opportunity to involve youth and adult leaders in the Council of Lutheran Youth Fellowship Representatives caucus that takes place in St. Louis. In addition to being equipped to lead the newest element of LYF Leadership Training, the representatives also conduct business to shape and comment on youth ministry efforts in The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.  The CLYFR experience is led by the LYF Executive Board.  The Executive Board is elected as part of the National Gathering LYF Delegate Assembly and represent each of the five geographic regions that comprise the LCMS.

    THE LYF LOGO

LYFLogo_med.gifThe LYF logo is a stylized cross made from the intersecting design of the organization's initials, LYF. The cross is key to what LYF is, emphasizing that the cross and work of Jesus Christ is the central focus of all that we do in youth ministry. The "y"s in the four sets of initials with their circle "heads" represent the youth of the church, their "arms" uplifted in celebration and youthful enthusiasm. Their "arms" touch/clasp, emphasizing the fellowship and community aspects of youth ministry inherent in the group's name and serve as a reminder that a key element in youth ministry in the new century is building relationships - with Christ and with each other.

    LYF TEEN LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE

LYF is dedicated to the identification and development of leadership skills in young people. To that end, the Council of LYF Representatives (CLYFR) established the LYF Teen Leadership Initiative (TLI). An important principal of TLI is that teens themselves can take responsibility for developing leadership in their peers.

TLI is a series of leadership training workshops. Each year at the annual CLYFR meeting, participants are trained to lead a leadership workshop in their districts. With the support of their districts, CLYFR representatives present the workshops in congregational, circuit and district settings for their peers.

There are currently nine leadership training components including:

    • “TEEN BRIDGE BUILDING TRAINING (TBBT)” deals with the topic of intergenerational ministry and equips youth to take the first steps to build a bridge across the generation gap.
    •  “TEEN SERVICE TRAINING (TST)” leads youth through a Biblical model of service and a practical step by step training to plan their own local service project.
    • "TEENS REACHING TEENS" (TMT) focusing on outreach to teens in a peer ministry mode.
    • "TEENS BUILDING TEAMS" (TBT) focusing on community development and building relationships among teens.
    • "TEENS LEADING TEENS" (TLT) focusing on developing a dynamic servant leadership approach in youth ministry.
    • "TEENS TEACHING TEENS" (TTT)focusing on young people nurturing the faith in each other through youth lead Bible class and discussion groups.
    • "TRULY CARING TEENS" (TCT) focusing on peer ministry and care relationships by teens for teens.
    • "TEEN ASSET TRAINING" (TAT) focusing of how teens can build assets in each other as defined by Search Institute.
    • "TEEN MISSION TRAINING" (TMT) an aggressive witnessing program designed to help teens share their faith in a bold and uninhibited way. Direct inquiries for Information on TLI training events to your district office.
