| The national outreach ministry of LCMS World Mission focuses on equipping the members of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod to share the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ with the unchurched in our families, communities, and beyond. Partnering with the 35 LCMS districts throughout the United States, outreach ministries provides encouragement, resources, and networking for congregations in this endeavor with the goal that LCMS congregations will be encouraging places for those who share the faith and welcoming places for those who hear it.
The 2004 Synod Convention of the LCMS voted to move national outreach ministries from the supervision of the Board for District and Congregational Services to the supervision of the Board for Mission Services operating through LCMS World Mission. The same convention endorsed the vision of Ablaze!--a worldwide Lutheran mission movement to share the Good News with 100 million people by 2017, the 500th anniversary of the Reformation--and adopted the national goals of sharing the Gospel with 50 million people and planting 2,000 new congregations within the United States. It also encouraged all LCMS congregations to become "mission outposts," where the unchurched are lovingly connected to Jesus.
National outreach ministry works strategically with districts and congregations to meet these Synod-established goals. Rev. Scott Snow serves LCMS World Mission as the director of outreach.
