Frazier Norton Odom was born on July 23, 1937 in Buena Vista, Alabama, to the late John Q. Odom and Mabel Nee Clausell (both deceased). A stepmother Julia, Nee Peay, is also deceased.  He was united in Holy Matrimony with Ida , Nee Watson, in 1960.  to this union, four children were born: Pamela (Anthony) Deloney, Ina (Travis) Lacefield, John Q. Odom II, and Monique (John) Nunes.  His early education was attained at Council Public School and Pilgrim Lutheran School, both in Birmingham, Alabama (1955).  Subsequent schooling: Immanuel Lutheran College, Greensboro, North Carolina (1957), Immanuel Lutheran Seminary, Greensboro, North Carolina (1961), Concordia Teachers College, River Forest, Illinois (B.A. 1972), Concordia Theological Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri (M.A.R. 1976), and the Chicago Theological Seminary, Chicago, Illinois (D. Ministry, 1977).

 

Ordination into the Holy Ministry took place at Concordia Lutheran Church, New Orleans on July 16, 1961.  Parishes served: Concordia Lutheran Church, New Orleans (1961—1966) Trinity Lutheran Church, Selma, Alabama (1966—1968), Faith Lutheran church, Chicago, Illinois (1968—1986).  In 1986 Dr. Odom became the Director of the L.U.T.H.E.R. PLAN for the Missouri District until his retirement in 2002.

 

Dr. Odom has authored “MEN OF COLOR, MEN OF FAITH: (CPH, 1973) co-authored ‘DAYS IN THE LIFE OF DR. RICHARD C. DICKINSON” (2004).  He has written several articles including “The Church A Choir Built: (The Lutheran Witness, June 1978), “The Non-Traditional Family” (BPE, 1983), and Elementary School Devotional Outlines (BPE, 1980).  He has also served as an Instructor in the Theology Department, Valparaiso University (1972—1975).

 

Other significant services to the Church include: Circuit Counselor of the Chicago South Circuit of the English District (1976—1982) and Circuit Counselor of the St. Louis North Circuit of the Missouri District (1989—1990), Urban Affairs Committee, Northern Illinois District, church in Changing Communities Committee, English District (1982—1986), English District Representative to LCUSA (1984—1986), Sub-Committee on Professional/Para professional Materials of Synod’s Commission on Church Literature (1980—1983), Board of Directors Lutheran Homes and Services For The Elderly, Arlington Heights, Illinois (1980—1983), Mission Board Member, English district (1985—1986), Program Chairman Chicagoland English District (1983—1984), Secretary, Black Clergy Caucus (1988), Advisory committee on Black Training Centers (1987), and Board of Directors Lutheran Mission Association, St. Louis (1987—1989).

Rev. Poulson received his Master of Divinity degree in 1993 from Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary, St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada.  Rev. Poulson was ordained on September 5, 1993 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Philadelphia, PA. He has served as pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church-Charlotte, NC since February 2000. He has severed as the LWML (Lutheran Women's Missionary League) Chaplain for the Carolinas District. He has also been involved in advocating for church workers and their families with LCMS Ministerial and Growth and Support. Rev. Poulson recently delivered a keynote address at the 2007 Black Ministry Educator’s Conference titled “Healthy Lutheran Educators.”
