LCMS official elected to public relations organization leadership team

ST. LOUIS—February 2, 2012—The St. Louis Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) recently voted and approved a leadership team for 2012 that included the election of Vicki Biggs, director of integrated communications for The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS).

Biggs was elected as one of four directors-at-large who are a part of the 12-member PRSA leadership team. She will serve a two-year term and oversee the organization's membership committee.

"Vicki is a pillar in the wide-ranging communication efforts of our church body, and I know her considerable skills and experience will prove a great blessing to the St. Louis Chapter of PRSA," said David Strand, executive director of LCMS Communications.

Founded in 1949, the St. Louis Chapter of PRSA is the seventh oldest continuous chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. Today, the organization has about 300 members from both sides of the Mississippi River. The St. Louis Chapter is committed to serving local public relations professionals by providing opportunities to further develop professional knowledge, enhance the standards, ethics and standing of the profession, as well as exchange ideas and experiences.

As director of integrated communications for the LCMS, Biggs oversees brand marketing, public relations, social media, special events and reputation management for the church body's ministries that are headquartered at the LCMS International Center in St. Louis.

Prior to joining the LCMS in 2006, Biggs served as vice president of marketing and communications at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri (2004-2005), general manager of marketing and administration at St. Louis County Fair & Air Show (2000-2004), and marketing coordinator at Baird, Kurtz & Dobson, CPAs, (1987-2000).

A native of St. Louis, Mo., Biggs earned a bachelor's degree in business administration with dual emphases in marketing and management in 1987 from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Biggs is a longtime member of PRSA and has previously served the St. Louis chapter as the job bank chair and as a member of the seasoned professionals committee.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose, when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution toward another aspect of ministry that aligns closely the contributor’s goals and values. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.

Consistent with Synod Board policy and in recognition of a more challenging economic and philanthropic/fundraising environment due to inflationary pressure, not more than 12.5 percent of any charitable contribution will be allocated to administering gifts and communicating with contributors. Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
