LCMS national disaster response conference set for Oct. 8-10
Fourth event held in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, October 8, 2012—The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s fourth National Disaster Response Conference gets underway today at the LCMS International Center in St. Louis.

About 75 people who are involved in congregation and district disaster response and relief efforts from throughout the country will attend the conference, set for Oct. 8-10.

“Two particular things that we will be focusing on are reaffirming our commitment to mercy in action and renewing our vocation,” said the Rev. Glenn F. Merritt, director of LCMS Disaster Response.

Participants will discuss recent developments in disaster response and will review the LCMS’ new disaster-response training manual, “Mercy in Action: Preparing Congregations for Disaster Response.”

In addition to Merritt, speakers include:  President Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison; the Rev. Bart Day, executive director, LCMS Office of National Mission; the Rev. Carlos Hernandez, director, LCMS Church and Community Development; the Rev. Dr. Edward O. Grimenstein, manager, Disaster Response; and the Rev. Paul Krueger, senior pastor, Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot, N.D.

The LCMS Disaster Response ministry responds to immediate and long-term needs following natural and man-made disasters, working through LCMS districts and congregations, international Lutheran churches and other partners. To learn more about LCMS Disaster Response, visit www.lcms.org/disaster.
