Macau

  •  Country Summary
  • The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and Lutherans from Hong Kong began serving refugees in Macau in October 1950. By 1953, with significant involvement from “The Lutheran Hour” with rebroadcasts from Hong Kong, the work continued. In the late 1960s, the Rev. Louis Jasper began work with the deaf in Macau.

The Lutheran Church—Hong Kong Synod (LCHKS), based in nearby Hong Kong, became an LCMS partner church in 1977. The LCHKS serves Lutheran congregations in both Hong Kong and Macau.

The LCMS reinitiated work in Macau in 1988 with the organization of Concordia Welfare and Education Society Macau. Later in 1995, the International Lutheran Society of Macau was founded for the registration of Concordia English Center in Macau. During this time, the LCMS also provided support for Christian education for children with disabilities.

Since 2003, an alliance missionary pastor from the China Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Synod’s partner church in Taiwan, has been serving with the LCMS missionary team to reach out into the community to proclaim the Gospel.

The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution differently. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.  Consistent with Synod Board policy, no more than 12 percent of a charitable contribution may be applied to administering gifts and communicating with contributors.  Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
