South Korea

Summary

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod began work in South Korea in 1958. In 1971, the Lutheran Church in Korea (LCK) became an LCMS sister church. It also joined the International Lutheran Council. Our missionaries currently serve in general support to the LCK and at Luther Theological Seminary. We continue to encourage and support the planting of churches in South Korea, particularly near the military base in Pyeongtaek. The congregations in this area serve both local Koreans and US military personnel.
