Dear fellow workers of the vineyard,
The new LCMS church-planting initiative, Mission Field: USA, is now underway. The purpose of this initiative is to assist our districts in their church-planting efforts to plant distinctly Lutheran churches.
This is done by using Witness, Mercy and Life Together as a framework for doing missions, and the ministry uses Luther’s Marks of the Church as guideposts for the newly planted church. This approach can be used by mother congregations, sponsoring circuits, or church-planting networks that may simply need support to get things started.
Whether it is a transient campus ministry, a gritty urban core or a struggling rural area, we are committed to sending national missionaries to be pioneers in this new frontier. We are currently accepting applications for future national missionaries who might be pastors, deaconesses or others who would serve in mission projects.
The Rev. Steve Schave, director of LCMS Urban & Inner-City Mission and director of LCMS Church Planting, can help schedule any training needed in these areas. He also seeks to work with our districts to find site locations for projects. Rev. Schave may be reached by calling 314-996-1752 or by email at missionfieldusa@lcms.org.
This work of the harvest will be a tough row to hoe — and you can help. This is an opportunity to pray for the laborers, to support our missionaries in this vital work and to consider giving to important Mission Field: USA outreach projects.
It is also an opportunity for you to help plow the fields through mission and mercy trips to our Mission Field: USA locations.
The Rev. Bart Day Executive Director, LCMS Office of National Mission
