Argentina

  •  Country Summary
  • What would become the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Argentina began November 1905 in Aldea San Juan, mostly among Russian-German immigrants. Over the years, a national church was established. Today, the church body has two emphases: mission work, under the theme “Christ for all,” and education to recover an evangelistic church.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod began supporting mercy work in Argentina in 1992 by establishing a special education program. Since then, grants have continued to aid outreach to people with disabilities, the elderly, youth and children and those in need of medical care or alcohol and substance abuse counseling.

Mission work in Spain was started through a partnership between the LCMS and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Argentina in 1999. The LCMS supports various mission projects in Argentina, providing funding to train future church leaders.

In 1986, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Argentina became a sister/partner church of the LCMS.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Argentina includes 70 parishes, 265 congregations, 30,000 baptized members and 80 active pastors. It also conducts social work in many places in Argentina, and it owns and operates seven elementary and secondary schools with a total of 4,200 students.

  •  Partner Churches
  • A partner church is a church body with whom the LCMS has full altar and pulpit fellowship. Many LCMS partner churches are also members of the International Lutheran council, a worldwide association of confessional Lutheran church bodies. Some LCMS partner churches came into existence through LCMS-supported mission efforts while others have historic roots that pre-date the LCMS or that are sourced in the mission efforts of other Lutheran church bodies.

The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution differently. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.  Consistent with Synod Board policy, no more than 12 percent of a charitable contribution may be applied to administering gifts and communicating with contributors.  Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
