Bio
The Rev. Dr. Walter and Robyn Steele serve the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) in Asia, based in the Republic of the Philippines.
Walter serves as theological educator and professor, primarily at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Baguio City in northern Luzon. Robyn teaches deaconess students and provides diaconal support to the missionaries in the region. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Deaconess Studies and is a deaconess intern. Together they equip church workers in spreading the Gospel, planting Lutheran churches and showing mercy.
Prior to moving to the Philippines, Walter served as academic dean and professor of Bible and Confessions Studies at Neema Lutheran College in Matongo, Kenya. He also served as an advisor in curriculum development for schools throughout Africa. In Kenya, Robyn served as a nutrition educator and taught classes for deaconess students.
Walter holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Theology and Culture from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, as well as Master of Divinity, Master of Theology and Master of Sacred Theology degrees, with emphases in biblical theology and pastoral practice. A 16-year veteran of the United States Navy, Walter has served Sailors and Marines overseas and stateside as a Navy chaplain. Prior to serving in Africa, he was pastor of three LCMS congregations. He has also taught courses for various colleges and seminaries around the world.
Robyn is a registered dietitian with a degree in nutrition from New Mexico State University. She has worked in the field for over 30 years. Prior to serving in Africa, she ran her own nutrition consulting company and has worked in acute care hospitals and outpatient nutrition clinics.
The Steeles have two married adult children and four grandchildren, who live in the U.S.

Pray for Walter and Robyn as they serve in Asia. Ask the Lord to continue to grant them good health as they seek to bring the message of God’s grace in Christ to their students and to those in the surrounding communities.
