Deaconess Heidi Bishop de Mazariegos and Cristian Mazariegos Muñoz

Deaconess Instructor

Serving the Lord in Guatemala

Bio

Deaconess Heidi Bishop de Mazariegos serves the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) as a missionary in Latin America, based in Guatemala. In this role, she serves as a deaconess instructor for the online deaconess program at Concordia the Reformer Seminary and Mercy Center in Palmar Arriba, Dominican Republic. Heidi is instrumental in mentoring deaconess students throughout the Latin America and Caribbean region, and she assists in developing mercy workshops and continuing education opportunities for deaconesses.

Heidi is from Algonquin, Ill., and her home congregation is Iglesia Vida y Fe in West Dundee, Ill. She holds a bachelor’s degree in theology and a deaconess certification from Concordia University Chicago, River Forest, Ill. From 2008 to 2018, Heidi served as a deaconess at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Elgin, Ill., where she also volunteered with the Spanish-speaking mission congregations in the area. Since then, she has spent several years working as an English teacher in various schools in Guatemala. In her free time, she enjoys baking, traveling around Guatemala, and spending time with husband Cristian and son Andrew.

Cristian is from Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. He has a degree in graphic design from Universidad Landivar in Quetzaltenango, and he is the owner and manager of a store there.

Prayers

Please pray for Heidi, Cristian and Andrew as they live and serve in Guatemala. Ask God to give them patience as they transition to this new role. Pray that Heidi would be effective in teaching and mentoring deaconess students and that the hearts and minds of the people she encounters in her daily life would be open to learning about Jesus Christ, the Savior. Let us give thanks to God for providing workers like Heidi in Latin America.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose, when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution toward another aspect of ministry that aligns closely the contributor’s goals and values. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.

Consistent with Synod Board policy and in recognition of a more challenging economic and philanthropic/fundraising environment due to inflationary pressure, not more than 14 percent of any charitable contribution will be allocated to administering gifts and communicating with contributors. Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
