Nicole Barthel,
Serving the Lord in Vietnam
Bio
Nicole Barthel serves the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod as a GEO volunteer in Hanoi, Vietnam. (GEO volunteers serve in locations around the world for terms of 1-2 years.) She teaches English at a university in Hanoi and through this, builds relationships with her students in and out of the classroom. She also seeks opportunities to develop community involvement programs.
Euless, Texas, is Nicole’s hometown and she considers both Concordia Lutheran Church in nearby Bedford, and Trinity Lutheran Church, Amarillo, Texas, as her home congregations. She earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and geography and a master’s degree in environmental science from West Texas A&M University, in Canyon, Texas, just south of Amarillo. Nicole previously served as a church camp counselor (2012) and chairman of her congregation’s youth board (2011-2012) and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity (2008) and Operation Care International (2007). In her free time, Nicole enjoys sports, theatre, music, reading and cooking.
Prayers
Please pray for Nicole as she serves the people of Vietnam and give thanks that God has led her to serve in Vietnam. Pray that she and her fellow volunteers will be able to cross any language and cultural barriers that may prevent them from connecting with students, colleagues and others in Vietnam. Pray also that the Lord would grant her family peace while she is in Vietnam and that the Vietnamese students she serves would have open hearts.
