Serving the Lord in Macau

Bio

Elliot and Serena Derricks Elliot and Serena (Little) Derricks serve the Lord in Macau, a special administrative region of China. Serena serves as a GEO (GEO missionaries are globally engaged in outreach and serve for terms of 1-2 years.) at the Concordia English Center. She also helps to lead Bible studies and outreach activities. Through all of these ministries, Serena shares the Gospel with students and their families as she builds relationships with them. Elliot served as a GEO in Slovakia last year, and is currently teaching as a local school in Macau and helping with the outreach at the Concordia English Center by teaching in the free Bible class during the week. He is also developing the relationship of the Concordia English Center with the local school and inviting his students to the free Bible classes.

Elliot’s hometown is Denmark, Wis., and his home congregation is Zion Lutheran Church in Wayside, Wis. He graduated from Concordia University, Wisconsin in 2010 with degree in secondary Lutheran education, English and a minor in History. Serena’s hometown is Buckley, Wash., and her home congregation is St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Federal Way, Wash. She graduated from Concordia University, Portland, Ore., with the same degree of secondary education in English with a Lutheran education minor. Serena and Elliot were married in October 2011 after meeting at new missionary orientation in the summer of 2010. In their free time, they enjoy learning to speak Chinese, eating Serena’s cooking and watching American football games.

Prayers

Please pray for Serena and Elliot as they serve the Lord in Macau in various ways. Pray that He would provides them with strength and confidence in His call during this time of transition and new challenges. Pray for comfort for their families and friends in the U.S. Pray that God would open the hearts and minds of the people in Macau. Ask God to bless the ministry of the entire team in Macau and the relationships that He has blessed them with through the English center. Finally, ask the Lord to bless Serena and Elliot in their marriage!
