Rev. Dr. Jonathan and Rachel Mumme,
Serving the Lord in the United Kingdom
Bio

Rev. Dr. Jonathan and Deaconess Rachel Mumme serve the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod as missionaries based in Cambridge, England. Jonathan serves as the tutor for systematic theology and church history at Westfield House, the House of Theological studies of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of England. As a tutor, he helps educate British, African, Scandinavian and European students toward ministerial and diaconal service in the church, as well as study-abroad students from LCMS seminaries and universities. He also serves as assistant pastor at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Cambridge. Rachel coordinates communications for Westfield House, generating both printed and online materials for the institution. She is also engaged in student recruiting and works as the on-site liaison of The Friends of Westfield House, the U.S.-based support and donor network that seeks to underwrite the institution’s unique academic mandate of providing Lutheran theological education in the Cambridge context.
Jonathan’s hometown is South Branch Township of St. James, Minn., and Rachel grew up in Wheaton, Ill., where their home church still is St. John Lutheran Church. Jonathan holds a B.A. in theological languages and English from Concordia University Chicago, a M.Div. from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and a Th.D. from the University of Tuebingen, Germany. Rachel earned a B.A. in theology and deaconess studies from Concordia University Chicago and a M.A. in Christian Outreach from Concordia University, St. Paul, Minn. She has previously served as a deaconess at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Brookfield, Wis. (2000-2005), and with LCMS World Relief and Human Care (2005-2011). Their daughter, Miranda, joined the family in 2011.
Prayers
Please pray for Jonathan and Rachel as they serve in Cambridge. Pray that Jonathan would be faithful in his proclamation of the Gospel at Resurrection Lutheran Church and in his teaching of theology at Westfield House. Pray that Rachel would effectively communicate the mission and purpose of Westfield House’s educational undertakings to its supporters. Pray that the family would have a happy home in Cambridge, where Miranda may grow not only in ‘wisdom and stature’, but also in ‘favor with God and man.’ Pray that Westfield House might grow to an elite center for confessional Lutheran theological education, offering its unique context in Cambridge as a service to Lutheran students from around the world.
