Abigail Young

Serving the Lord in the Dominican Republic

Bio

Abigail Young serves the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS), based in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. In this role, she teaches music to students at a Lutheran school and a local public school, and she assists with English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) training.

Abigail was born in San Antonio, Texas, but she later moved to Fishkill, N.Y., where she attends Our Savior Lutheran Church. She has a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of North Texas, Denton. From 2020 to 2024, she worked as a music teacher in the Port Chester Union Free School District in New York. Over the last 10 years, Abigail has served the church in a variety of ways, including through the Lutheran Youth Corps (2014) and the LCMS Youth Gathering (2022). She has also served in English Bible Camps in Hungary (2018 and 2019) and at Our Savior as assistant youth group leader (2020–2024), handbell assistant director (2021–2024) and choir director (2022–2024). In her spare time, she enjoys inventing new games, designing posters, running and making music.

Prayers

Pray for Abigail as she serves in the Dominican Republic. Ask God to give her health and safety and to be with her as she learns Spanish. Pray also for the people she meets and teaches, that they would be open to hearing about their Savior, Jesus Christ, and joining His family in the church. Give thanks to God that Abigail is serving His children in this part of the world.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose, when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution toward another aspect of ministry that aligns closely the contributor’s goals and values. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.

Consistent with Synod Board policy and in recognition of a more challenging economic and philanthropic/fundraising environment due to inflationary pressure, not more than 14 percent of any charitable contribution will be allocated to administering gifts and communicating with contributors. Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
