Serving the Lord in Germany

Bio

Anika Slayton serves the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) as a missionary in Leipzig, Germany, during her deaconess internship. In this role, Anika encourages other diaconal candidates with a clear example of the process of training for diaconal service. She also teaches women and children, assists in ongoing evangelism and outreach activities, provides diaconal care to refugees, and models the Christian life for refugees who are new to the faith or are being catechized.

Anika was born in Aurora, Ill. and was raised in St. Charles, Mo . Her home congregation is Village Lutheran Church in Ladue, Mo. She is currently studying at Concordia University Chicago (CUC), River Forest, Ill., where she is earning a B.A. in Theology with a Deaconess Certificate and a minor in English. Anika did her field work at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elmhurst, Ill., and with the LCMS Office of National Mission at the International Center in Kirkwood, Mo. She also spent a semester studying abroad at the Westfield House in Cambridge, England. While in college, Anika worked as a student manager of the CUC Helpdesk (2022–present); served as a head proctor at Christ Academy, a program of Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, that helps young people explore a future in church work (2022–2024); and completed a summer internship with Higher Things (2023). In her free time, Anika enjoys hiking, running, reading classical and fantasy literature, and studying biology.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose, when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution toward another aspect of ministry that aligns closely the contributor’s goals and values. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.

Consistent with Synod Board policy and in recognition of a more challenging economic and philanthropic/fundraising environment due to inflationary pressure, not more than 13.5 percent of any charitable contribution will be allocated to administering gifts and communicating with contributors. Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
