Bio
The Rev. Samuel and Erica Bobby serve the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) in Riga, Latvia. In this role, Sam teaches at the Luther Academy, the seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia. He also serves as a missionary pastor to the area.
Sam is originally from Bowdle, S.D. He received his bachelor’s degree in rhetoric and communication from Black Hills State University, Spearfish, S.D., and his Master of Divinity and Ph.D. degrees from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis (CSL). Before becoming a missionary, Sam served parishes in Wisconsin and South Dakota. He has also taught debate and logic for local schools and homeschool coops, served as the secretary of the LCMS South Dakota District (2015–2018), been a circuit visitor, and worked as an adjunct professor for CSL. In his free time, Sam enjoys reading, playing pocket billiards and weightlifting.
Erica is from Volga, S.D. She has a bachelor’s degree in English from Black Hills State University and a Master of Arts in speech communication from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, S.D. She has taught English and speech at Northern State University, Aberdeen, S.D.; Black Hills State University’s satellite campus in Rapid City, S.D.; and Sanford-Brown College, St. Louis. She and Sam are members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Aberdeen, and they have five sons. When Erica is not busy taking care of her family, she enjoys drinking a quiet cup of coffee, reading and sewing.
Prayers
Pray for Sam and Erica as they serve in Latvia. Ask God to watch over the family’s travels and to help them as they adapt to the many changes that will come their way, especially being apart from oldest son Judah who attends college the United States. Pray, too, for the students at the Luther Academy and all the people the Bobby family will encounter in Eurasia. Give thanks that they are serving God’s people in this part of the world.
