Johanna Heidorn

Serving in the Latin America and Caribbean Region

Bio

Missionary Johanna Heidorn serves as a photographer, designer and communication outreach specialist through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). Working throughout the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region, based in the Dominican Republic, she travels to the edges of the mission field to document stories that educate about and promote the work of Christ.

Through the use of multimedia, Johanna’s work not only bridges the gap between cultures, allowing communities to connect more directly with how God moves in the LAC region, it also engages with those who have not yet heard the Gospel. With a sincere passion for connecting with new people and capturing moments that normally go unseen, her work aims to visibly demonstrate spreading the Gospel, planting Lutheran churches and showing mercy in the far-flung corners of Latin America.

Serving as a missionary since 2017, Johanna spent the majority of her first year on the mission field in Asia before continuing in the LAC region. Her work has taken her across five continents where she has not only been able to capture wild and remote places, but also humbly embrace different cultures and people in some of the most densely populated places in the world. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in graphic design, public relations, photography and communications. Johanna is very close to her loving family, and she enjoys the outdoors and hiking in the mountains. She is grateful for her family and friends across the globe who pray for her and make it possible for her to do this work.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose, when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution toward another aspect of ministry that aligns closely the contributor’s goals and values. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.

Consistent with Synod Board policy and in recognition of a more challenging economic and philanthropic/fundraising environment due to inflationary pressure, not more than 12.5 percent of any charitable contribution will be allocated to administering gifts and communicating with contributors (compared to a not-more-than ceiling of 10.5 percent the previous fiscal year). Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
