Rev. Chuck and Jean Hoffman
Serving the Lord in South Korea

Rev. Chuck and Jean Hoffman and their childrenRev. Chuck and Jean Hoffman serve the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) as missionaries in South Korea. In this role, Chuck serves as the pastor at International Lutheran Church, Seoul, South Korea. He is responsible for the spiritual care and growth of the many expatriates and Korean nationals who worship at this church. He also coordinates with other LCMS missionaries and the leadership of the Lutheran Church in Korea (LCK) to develop new ministries and potential new church plants outside the city of Seoul. Together, Chuck and Jean minister to the local people in this community as they seek to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with them.

Chuck was born in Traverse City, Mich., and his home congregation is Martin Luther Chapel, East Lansing, Mich. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Michigan State University, East Lansing, and received his Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. Before serving in South Korea, Chuck served as a volunteer missionary in Taiwan for three years and served on two short-term mission trips to Juarez, Mexico (2002, 2003). He also served as pastor at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Elko, Nev. (2011-2014).

Jean was born in Chia Yi, Taiwan, where her home congregation is Salvation Lutheran Church. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Wenzao Ursuline College of Languages, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. She also completed classes at Great Basin College, Elko, Nev., from 2011-2014. Before heading to the mission field, Jean worked as a Mandarin/English interpreter for LanguageLine Solutions and as a certified nurse assistant (CNA) at Highland Village of Elko, a skilled nursing care facility in Elko, Nev. Chuck and Jean served together on a short-term mission trip to Central Asia in 2010. They enjoy camping, hiking, traveling, learning new languages and spending time with their two beautiful daughters, Anneliese and Elsie.

Pray for the Hoffmans as they serve in South Korea. Ask God to daily use both of them to effectively and compassionately share the Good News of Jesus Christ with the people they encounter where they live and work. Let us give thanks that the Hoffmans are serving God's children in this part of the world.
