Rev. Dr. Arthur A. Just Jr.

Serving the Lord in the Latin America and Caribbean Region

Bio

Rev. Dr. Arthur A. Just Jr. serves the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) as a missionary in the Latin America and Caribbean region. His work is in partnership with Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, where he continues to serve as the chairman and professor of exegetical theology. This unique partnership makes it possible for Arthur to serve part time in this region under LCMS’ Office of International Missions.

In Latin America, Arthur serves as a theological educator, teaching various classes at the Seminario Concordia el Reformador in Santiago, Dominican Republic. He also serves as a missionary pastor in the Dominican Republic and in Spain, mentoring other LCMS missionaries serving in these countries and sharing the Gospel and the Sacraments through visits with church members.

Arthur is from New England, and he currently attends Saint Paul Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. He received his Master of Divinity in New Testament from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, and his Master of Sacred Theology (STM) in New Testament and Liturgics from Yale Divinity School, New Haven, Conn. He also received his doctorate degree in New Testament from the Durham University, England. Arthur has served as a professor at Concordia Theological Seminary since 1984. Over the years, he has been involved with several mission efforts around the world, such as helping to start a Lutheran seminary in Siberia, serving as a pastor with the Lutheran church in Spain and working alongside deaconesses in Kenya. Arthur’s interests include golf, reading fiction and poetry, fly-fishing and gardening.

Arthur’s wife, Linda, supports him as he serves in Latin America. She also assists in the LCMS regional office in the Dominican Republic. Her hometown is Fort Wayne, Ind., and she also attends Saint Paul Lutheran Church. Linda enjoys reading, genealogy and spending time with her grandchildren.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose, when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution toward another aspect of ministry that aligns closely the contributor’s goals and values. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.

Consistent with Synod Board policy and in recognition of a more challenging economic and philanthropic/fundraising environment due to inflationary pressure, not more than 12.5 percent of any charitable contribution will be allocated to administering gifts and communicating with contributors (compared to a not-more-than ceiling of 10.5 percent the previous fiscal year). Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
