Sarah Kanoy

Serving the Lord in East Africa

Bio

Sarah Kanoy serves the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) in East Africa, based in Moshi, Tanzania. In her role as a registered nurse, she teaches Community Health Evangelism (CHE) lessons to emerging health leaders in the village. The lessons cover topics such as preventing malaria, basic hygiene, women’s health, nutrition and many more. Each lesson also includes sharing the Gospel and an invitation to the local Lutheran church. Sarah finds joy training these leaders and encouraging them as they share the information with others in their communities. Sarah also works with Mercy Medical Teams that proclaim the Gospel while providing health care to underserved populations in East Africa.

Sarah was born in Kansas City, Mo., and her hometown is Arlington, Neb. She calls St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Arlington, Neb., her home congregation. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Northwestern College, Orange City, Iowa and is working on her Master of Science in Nursing degree through online classes from Cedarville University. Before serving in East Africa, Sarah worked as a registered nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. She also served on short-term medical mission trips to East Africa in 2010, 2011 and 2015. In her free time, Sarah enjoys watching movies (in English!!), swimming, exploring new places, playing cards, and spending time with friends and family.

Prayers

Pray for Sarah as she serves in East Africa. Ask God to continue to give her joy and strength as she shares the Gospel while she teaches and provides health care. Pray that God blesses her with confidence and ease in speaking Swahili daily. Thank God for the emerging CHE leaders and their excitement to teach others. Pray that God would use these leaders and the CHE lessons to improve the health of many communities and to grow His church. Let us give thanks to God that Sarah is serving His children in this part of the world.
