Rev. Steven and Martha Mahlburg

Serving the Lord in Sri Lanka

Rev. Steven and Martha Mahlburg serve the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) as missionaries in Sri Lanka. Steven serves the Ceylon Evangelical Lutheran Church (CELC) in Sri Lanka as they restructure in order to better reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He provides administrative support, Christian education, and mentoring for the pastors, evangelists and laypeople of the CELC. He travels to the CELC congregations around Sri Lanka to encourage a bold witness to Jesus Christ. Steven also assists Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Colombo by conducting the English service and providing English medium pastoral care.

Steven grew up in the suburbs of Detroit. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University, Mt. Pleasant, in 1991, and his Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in 1995. He served for 20 years as a parish pastor in two Michigan congregations before serving as an international missionary. Steven enjoys reading, the performing arts, camping and the outdoors.

Martha also grew up in the Detroit suburbs and earned a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University. Martha’s hobbies include reading, cross stitching and watching movies. Steven and Martha enjoy spending time with their five children – Autumn, Liberty, Skye, Rose and Duncan. Autumn and Liberty are back in the United States attending college.

Pray for the Mahlburg family as they serve in Sri Lanka. Ask God to give them strength and peace as they continue to learn and adjust to the Sri Lankan culture. Pray that the Gospel would spread throughout all of Sri Lanka. Pray for the youth of the CELC that they would be guided to become pastors and church leaders. Let’s give God thanks that the Mahlburgs serve His children in this part of the world.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution differently. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.
