Christ’s Care for Children: Kenya
Christ’s Care for Children: Kenya is a child sponsorship program that matches individuals, families or groups in the United States with children who are living in one of the Project 24 boarding facilities in Kenya.
The facilities are managed by The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and our partner church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenya. The children live at one of the Project 24 facilities while attending school and church during the academic year.
The cost to sponsor a child is $1,080 per year and can be paid at one time or in monthly increments. Once a match is confirmed, new sponsors receive a “New Sponsor Packet” that includes information about their child along with his or her picture, a one-page description of the Project 24 facility where the child lives, the most recent Project 24 newsletter, and a letter from their child.
Throughout the sponsorship year, a sponsor receives updates about their child, his or her welfare and spiritual engagement, and Project 24 newsletters. In addition, the sponsor has an opportunity to correspond with their child.
As a sponsor, you are also welcome to visit your child at a Project 24 facility; dates and times vary each year, and information is provided upon request. Once the year is complete, a sponsor has the opportunity to renew the sponsorship with the same child for another year.
More than just food and shelter
The Christ’s Care for Children: Kenya program offers more than just food and shelter. It is also designed to equip children with everything necessary for success in life. While living at the Project 24 facilities, children learn to plant, harvest, cook, tend to livestock, clean the compound and care for their personal space.
The children begin and end each day with devotions. Choir practice, Bible study and catechesis occur throughout the week too. The children are full, contributing members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenya, and some teach Sunday school classes for the younger students.
Sponsor a child

“We are so thankful that the LCMS partners with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Kenya (ELCK) through their Project 24 ministry. During a visit to meet our beautiful sponsored child, we were overjoyed to witness the sponsorship program in action. Christ's life-changing love for his children was evident as we met the children, heard them sing to their Savior, and watched them learn and play. Project 24 is a powerful ministry that is shaping young lives and futures and we are blessed to be a part of what Jesus is doing in Kenya.” — Aaron and Mandy from Ypsilanti, Mich.
“Watching three children grow into young adulthood over several years has been a thrill. We are grateful they have learned to love Jesus as they have been provided with all the nourishment of mind, body, and spirit needed. Soon they will be Christian leaders for Kenya. Since we are a small part of their success, we were honored to meet them in Kenya. Now, imagine our joy when we meet them in heaven!” — Karen from Morganton, S.C.
