Rev. Matthew and Heather Ruesch,

Serving the Lord in Puerto Rico

Bio

Rev. Matthew and Heather Ruesch and their childrenRev. Matthew and Heather Ruesch serve the Lord as missionaries of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) in Puerto Rico. Matthew serves as the pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, an existing LCMS church plant. He provides Word and Sacrament ministry to the congregation and directs evangelism and mercy efforts in the Mayagüez community. He also helps to identify new mission opportunities on the island.

Matthew was born in Iron Mountain, Mich., and his home congregation is Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Kingsford, Mich. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon, and received his Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. Before becoming a missionary, he served as a pastor at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church, Garrison, Minn., and, most recently, as a dual parish pastor at Grace Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church, both in Bear Creek, Wis. Matthew enjoys reading, playing golf and watching baseball and football.

Heather was born in Huntington, W.Va., and grew up in Florence, Wis. Her home congregation is also Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Kingsford. She travels around the country speaking publicly on life issues and abstinence and is also a singer and songwriter. Before heading to the mission field, she served as executive director at the Waupaca Pregnancy Information Center, Waupaca, Wis. Heather’s hobbies include music, cooking, camping and spending time with her family. Matthew and Heather have three children - Isabella, Paul and Sofia - who join them on the mission field.

Prayers

Pray for the Rueschs as they serve in Puerto Rico. Pray that God would bless their efforts to reach out to the community as they attempt to establish an after-school program. Pray for the Prince of Peace congregation as they seek to confess Christ to those who are burdened both physically and spiritually. Pray for Matthew as he works to set up a campus ministry at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez, that students there would be brought to faith in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. Pray for Heather as she continues to serve the Church at-large as a life issues speaker and author, as well as undertaking life ministry efforts in the Latin America and the Caribbean region. Pray that the Ruesch children would continue to grow in their love for the Puerto Rican people and be witnesses to God’s love in their vocation as students.
