Rev. Richard and Gema Schuller,

Serving the Lord in Puerto Rico

Bio

Rev. Richard and Gema SchullerRev. Richard and Gema Schuller serve the Lord as missionaries of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) in Puerto Rico. Richard partners with Iglesia Luterana Principe de Paz (Prince of Peace Lutheran Church) in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. Together, Richard and Gema live out the sports motto, “Whatever it takes,” as they also work to plant a church (Fuente de Vida, or Fountain of Life Lutheran Church) in Ponce, a city located on the southern coast of Puerto Rico. They share God’s message with those in the community in which they live and work. They seek to build relationships with these individuals through Bible studies, basketball, water aerobics, bookstores, vacation Bible school (VBS), music and hosting community events.

Richard was born in Geneva, Ohio, and his home congregation is St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Worland, Wyo. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wyoming, Laramie, and received his Master of Divinity from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne. Before heading to Puerto Rico, Richard served extensively in outreach and evangelism to the Hispanic community, both in the United States and overseas (Panama, Guatemala and Mexico). He also worked with Lutheran Bible Translators in Columbia, South America. Richard and Gema also served as missionaries in Guatemala for six years right after they got married. Most recently, Richard served at Messiah Lutheran Church, Houston, working with its early childhood center.

Gema was born in San Martin, Peru. She attended Leonard Hawes Real Estate School, Houston, where she received her real estate consultant license. After raising her family, she worked as a real estate consultant in Houston. She also worked as a bilingual assistant in Lima, Peru.

Prayers

Pray for the Schullers as they serve in Puerto Rico. Pray the Word of God has free reign and the Holy Spirit moves in many hearts to come into fellowship with Jesus. Pray the Puerto Rican pastoral team can help raise up strong elders and lay leaders to carry on and spread the Gospel in Mayagüez, Ponce and beyond. Ask God to be with Richard and Gema’s grown children and their spouses. Ask God to keep Richard’s father and Gema’s mother in good health.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose.
