For the Sake of the Church

Concordia University System Endowments   •   The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod

The Concordia University System encourages an endowment effort to significantly increase the number of future Lutheran leaders for the church and society. The effort has a twofold goal:

  • Increase the number of LCMS students on our college/university campuses.
  • Develop endowment funds to financially reduce the cost of students’ education.

Endowments are needed to maintain fiscally strong institutions while at the same time financially assisting students to reduce their educational cost. Lutheran university graduates are the future key leaders in our congregations and communities.

A teaching church is a church in mission. Or, as Martin Luther wrote:

“We must have and maintain Christian schools.”

Thrivent Choice

  • Thrivent Choice is a giving program that let’s members help choose where Thrivent Financial gives back. Members can participate in one or two ways:

    • Voting: All benefits and associate members will be eligible to “vote” to distribute a portion of Thrivent Financial’s charitable funds among a short list of national charities (Lutheran and non-Lutheran), one to two times per year.

    • Choice Dollars: Approximately 30 percent of benefit members will be able to direct Thrivent Choice Dollars to thousands of Lutheran nonprofit organizations, including Lutheran congregations. (Approximately 75 percent of past participants in the GivingPlus program will be eligible to direct Choice Dollars.)

Eligibility for Choice Dollars is based on a member’s insurance premiums, account values and volunteer leadership. Most eligible benefit members will be able to direct between $25 and $100, and some may be able to direct as much as $500.

The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution differently. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.  Consistent with Synod Board policy, no more than 12 percent of a charitable contribution may be applied to administering gifts and communicating with contributors.  Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.

Our Tax Identification Number is: 43-0658188
