Vicar Benjamin and Grace Vanderhyde

Serving the Lord in Sri Lanka

Vicar Benjamin and Grace Vanderhyde serve the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) as missionaries in Sri Lanka. In his role as vicar, Benjamin trains up musicians to serve the Ceylon Evangelical Lutheran Church while assisting the other LCMS missionaries serving in Sri Lanka with their work and learning from them.

Benjamin was born in Denver, Colo. He has a bachelor’s degree in parish music from Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon. He is currently pursuing his Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. Benjamin’s hobbies include hiking, ultimate frisbee and playing the organ.

Grace’s hometown is Parker, Colo. She received a bachelor’s degree in K-12 art education from Concordia University, Nebraska, Seward. For the last two years (2016-2018), Grace has served as an art teacher at Green Park Lutheran School, St. Louis. In her free time, she enjoys art, hiking, playing tennis and cooking. Benjamin and Grace love spending time with their adorable children, Larson and Hollen.

Pray for the Vanderhyde family as they serve in Sri Lanka. Ask God to give them strength and endurance as they transition to life in Sri Lanka, learning a new language and culture. Pray for their continued health and safety as they serve overseas. Ask God to bestow upon them wisdom and grant them opportunities to be a blessing to the church and mission team in Sri Lanka. Let us give God thanks that the Vanderhydes are serving His children in this part of the world.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution differently. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.  Consistent with Synod Board policy, no more than 12 percent of a charitable contribution may be applied to administering gifts and communicating with contributors.  Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
