Rev. Chris and Dr. Jenny Yang

Theological Educator and Church Planter   •   Serving the Lord in Taiwan

Bio

The Rev. Chris and Dr. Jenny Yang serve the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) in Asia, based in Taiwan. The Yangs are returning to the mission field in Asia, where Chris previously served as a church planter from 2015 to 2018. In his current role, he provides Word and Sacrament ministry in Taiwan and supports theological education and Mandarin-speaking ministry across the region.

Chris was born in Beijing, China. He received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, and a master’s degree in computer science and mathematics from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Ill. He later earned his Master of Divinity from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne. He has served as associate pastor at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Falls Church, Va., since 2009 — except while previously serving as a missionary — and he has been working with Chinese mission and ministries, especially with students and young adults, since 1997.

Jenny was born in Taipei, Taiwan. She received her bachelor’s degree from Taipei National University of the Arts and her master’s degree from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, Rochester, N.Y. She also earned a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) degree in violin performance from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Jenny has worked as a music teacher in various schools and studios, and she homeschooled their two sons, Jonathan and David. She also translates and edits English-language Lutheran materials into Mandarin Chinese for the Evangelical Lutheran Mission Society for the Chinese.

Prayers

Pray for Chris and Jenny as they serve in Taiwan and other parts of Asia. Ask the Lord to grant them strength and encouragement as they work with seminary students and seek to bring the Good News of Christ to those in Chinese-speaking communities. Give thanks to God that Chris and Jenny are serving His people in this part of the world.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose, when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution toward another aspect of ministry that aligns closely the contributor’s goals and values. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.

Consistent with Synod Board policy and in recognition of a more challenging economic and philanthropic/fundraising environment due to inflationary pressure, not more than 14 percent of any charitable contribution will be allocated to administering gifts and communicating with contributors. Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
