Britt Odemba

Serving the Lord in Kenya

Bio

Britt Odemba serves the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) in Kenya. Britt works with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenya (ELCK) as an educational consultant. Britt’s main role is to assist the local Project 24 director. Project 24 is a children’s boarding facility program initiated by the LCMS and the ELCK. A child sponsorship program called Christ’s Care for Children: Kenya has stemmed from the Project 24 program, and Britt oversees this sponsorship program. She is in charge of collecting, sharing and storing all the children’s information. She assists with creating partnerships between donors and the children in need within the ELCK partner church. Once these relationships are established, Britt serves as the key communication person between the two parties. Overall, she has really enjoyed watching these relationships develop and grow over these last few years.

Britt is originally from Palo Alto, Calif., and she has a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Concordia University, Irvine, Calif. She has served previously with Springs of Life Lutheran Church in Kibera, Nairobi, Kenya, where she helped restore their school, Karama Academy. Before serving in Kenya, she was a preschool teacher and director at Christ Lutheran Church & School in Costa Mesa, Calif. God prepared Britt for her work in Africa through four short-term mission trips, three of which were in Kenya. Britt’s hobbies include reading, visiting with other moms and mentors, and spending time with her husband Micah and their children Rael and Silas.

Prayers

Pray for Britt as she continues to serve in Kenya. Ask God to guide her and Micah as they raise Rael and Silas in the Christian faith. Pray for the Christ’s Care for Children: Kenya program and that the children may continue to grow in their faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ. Pray that God continues to bless the efforts of the staff at Karama Academy. Let us give thanks to God that Britt continues to serve in Kenya.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose, when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution toward another aspect of ministry that aligns closely the contributor’s goals and values. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.

Consistent with Synod Board policy and in recognition of a more challenging economic and philanthropic/fundraising environment due to inflationary pressure, not more than 12.5 percent of any charitable contribution will be allocated to administering gifts and communicating with contributors. Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
