Bio

Rev. Tom and Brenda Chryst serve as missionaries of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod in Singapore, where Tom is the first LCMS church planter in the island nation. Singapore serves as the headquarters for LCMS witness and mercy work in the Southern Asia/Oceania region. The new Lutheran congregation there includes regional support staff, but is working quickly to reach out to native Singaporeans.

Tom was born and raised in Baltimore, Md., and is a graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis and Concordia College-New York, where he met Brenda (nee Miert). Brenda, from Greenwich, Conn., has a degree in social work from Concordia College-New York and enjoys home-schooling their three children. Before serving as missionary, Tom was associate pastor at Grace Lutheran Church, Racine, Wis., for 13 years. Tom's hobbies include chess and football — and he is a Green Bay Packers fan. Brenda enjoys cooking and making the most of her time with their three daughters. Bailey, their oldest, is an avid chess player and swimmer. Helena enjoys gymnastics. Morgan, their youngest, is still in search of a specialty.

Prayers

Pray that the Chryst family makes a smooth transition to their new life in Singapore. The Chrysts ask, "Pray also for the fledgling congregation as it becomes established and reaches out with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Singapore is a multi-cultural and multi-religious context in which Christians are in the minority. There are many Buddhists, Muslims and Hindu. However, the society is open enough that we hope little will stand in the way of many hearing about Jesus who died for their sins, and gives blessings through His Word and Sacraments."
