Bio
Rachel Powell serves the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod as a missionary and deaconess intern in Lima, Peru. She is working alongside fellow missionaries as they start a new community center that will make Christ’s love known through acts of mercy and sharing the Gospel. Rachel assists with the development of the center’s various programs, which are designed to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the children and families in the surrounding neighborhood. It is the team’s hope that the center will build a bridge between the emerging Peruvian Lutheran church and its community, so that Jesus’ love might be known to all who avail themselves of the center’s services.
Rachel’s hometown is Bryant, Ind., and she is a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur, Ind. A theology major with a Spanish minor, she will graduate with her bachelor’s degree and deaconess certification from Concordia University Chicago, River Forest, Ill., upon completion of her deaconess internship. Rachel has previously worked as a camp counselor and completed deaconess student fieldwork at Luther-Tyndale Memorial Church in Kentish Town, London, United Kingdom and The Lutheran Home Retirement Community in Arlington Heights, Ill. Rachel’s hobbies include traveling, reading, hiking, camping, yoga, singing, running and languages.

Please pray for Rachel as she serves the Lord in Peru. She writes, “Please pray for those of us working on developing the community center’s ministry and that the Lord would raise up servants to serve His children who are hungry in both body and spirit. Thank the Lord for His provision and guidance for the team thus far and pray that we would continue to recognize His working through and among us. Pray for the impoverished, the homeless and those who do not yet know the love and mercy of our Lord Jesus. Please pray for the young Lutheran congregation in the San Borja neighborhood of Lima, Peru, the Bible study and conversation groups, confirmation classes and short-term mission trip coordination.”
